Now one of the things you can do with word of the day is enhance your hit rate by choosing words that search engines are looking for. Now I may be mistaken but I think Trump will get a few views.
The Oxford Shorter English Dictionary (SOD) gives me four definitions for Trump. I’ll start with Trumpery which is “deceit, fraud, trickery, a worthless, useless or triffling article, worthless stuff, rubbish, nonsense.” There, that sounds appropriate.
Back to Trump and the first definition is “a trumpet or trumpet blast, a thing which or person who proclaims, celebrates, or summons loudly , like a trumpet, a Jew’s harp, a sound likened to that of a trumpet, or an audible act of breaking wind.”
The next definition is a playing-card of a suit ranking above the other three during a deal or game.
The SOD covers the breaking wind definition again, then moves on to put something in a person’s way as a hinderance.
Sadly, or perhaps thankfully Alexander Tulloch’s It’s All Greek doesn’t have an entry on Trump.
