Veering away from biography, C.J. Sansom is a brilliant writer of historical fiction. My wife introduced me to his books. In my opinion Revelation is his finest. It’s the fourth book in the Matthew Shardlake Mysteries. Matthew is a barrister during Henry VIII’s reign. He is a hunchback whose cases always contain a mystery to be solved. They’re all great books, but Revelation delves more deeply into religious zealotry and mental health than the others, in my opinion. That powerful theme running through the plot adds so much. The revelation of the murderer was a brilliant cliffhanger, which I didn’t see coming. Let me know your recommendations for Readers Club, what you liked about the book, what you didn’t, and why.
