I’ll get to Christmas writing, but first I finished reading the biography of Louis XIII today. It didn’t disappoint. If the Sir Anthony Standen Adventures return to Paris in the next book, I have a much better understanding of the teenage king.
I’m writing this post as I wait for another biography, by the same author, Elizabeth Marvick. This one is her biography of Armand Jean du Plessis, Duke de Richelieu, or Cardinal Richelieu. I am teetering on the time and territory of The Three Musketeers.
Writing a Christmas themed sonnet is just not working for me at the moment. I don’t know why. Corsham Writers have their next meeting coming up. It will be the first one for me, and the task is to write a small Christmas themed piece. So I’ve repurposed a ghost story I wrote twelve years ago. I’m really looking forward to working with other writers again.
Perhaps it’s the run-up to Christmas, but my sales seem to be picking up a bit. I have my first rating for Called to Account, and it’s five stars. In the USA, Fire and Earth has edged up to 4.4 stars, from 4.3. I hope I’ll get some more radio or podcast interviews soon.
Christmas gift shopping beckons me, so I think I’ll combine it with popping into Waterstones in Bath and see if I can interest their manager in an author event / book signing. One can only ask. Practice makes progress, and I now have one radio interview and one book signing under my belt. You can bet any author event will not be before Christmas, so I should have more of an idea how book four is developing, and some writer circle experience as well. Corsham is on the way to Bath, so if I am able to get an author event, I may be able to encourage some of my new writer friends to come and support me. You can but dream.
