I have posted about my new Electric Vehicle (EV) and had comments from friends about range anxiety, and how hydrogen might be a better solution. Well, a newsletter from ZapMap alerted me to this phenomenal adventure. Chris and Julie Ramsey are planning to set off in March, and drive from the North to the South Pole in a Nissan Ariya all electric SUV. It’s unmodified other than having huge tyres to negotiate the terrain.
I assume that they’ll travel overland wherever possible and use shipping for the sea crossings. They will be towing a trailer across the Arctic and Antarctic, fitted with wind turbines and solar cells. I can’t wait to hear how they get on, and wish them every success. What a great way to promote the EV! I bet Nissan jumped at the idea.
I’m yet to have my first experience with the public charging network. Sadly we have a family funeral in Northampton some time soon, so that might be the time for my first public charge. I don’t anticipate a problem. A histogram in the ZapMap newsletter shows how rapidly the public charging network is growing. I do wish that the ultra fast chargers were growing a little more quickly, but every charger helps.
Claire and I have visited both the Arctic and Antarctic. They both exhibit the impact of climate change in ways that can’t be misunderstood. So the Pole to Pole adventure is a brilliant way to publicise both the problem and the solution.
