I recently posted about the Dartmouth Book Festival, so here’s an update. I have now received a copy of the brochure and the author’s agreement. As previously mentioned I will be on the Historical Fiction Panel with Tim Pears. We will be interviewed by John Suchet. John has been in touch via email, and we will be discussing the format of the session further in due course. John is patron of the Flavel, where the festival is being held.

Claire and I will each have passes to attend as many of the events as we wish. It’s going to be a busy weekend, since it’s a struggle to identify any events that I don’t want to attend.

My preparations for the Dartmouth Book Festival are going, pretty much, according to plan. I’ve had giveaway bookmarks printed, and have procured author copies of my books for signing and selling at the event. I’ve drafted out what I would say about my fall into historical fiction if I were giving a presentation, but as it seems to be becoming an interview the structure may change. I’ve also selected a passage from The Spy who Sank the Armada to read, if there’s to be a reading.

Jonathan Dimbleby will also be at the Dartmouth Book Festival talking about his latest book, Endgame 1944: How Stalin Won the War. That will be interesting. My main interest in WWII has been Africa, Italy, and Normandy, the theatres my father fought in.

I haven’t yet been able to seek advice from my fellow writers at Milktown Writers, as we’ve been down on our boat for the last two meetings. The next meeting should be on the 14th August. The weather forecast is looking poor for the foreseeable future so hopefully I can attend. It would be good to bounce ideas off fellow writers.
