I received an email yesterday claiming to be from Jane von Mehren, senior partner, literary agent, at Aevitas Creative Management.
It was gushing with praise for Called to Account, the fourth book in the Sir Anthony Standen Adventures. However, said gushing praise seemed to be very clearly AI generated. I checked out the Aevitas Creative website, and they certainly do have a Jane von Mehren. However when I clicked on her email address it was from janevonmehren.literaryagent@gmail.com. Now I’m pretty sure that the real Jane von Lehren will have an Aevitas email rather than a gmail one.
I wonder if scammers are buying books in order to flatter authors, or is the access that AI has been given to books in order to train AI now being used to scam the authors? The latter I imagine.
