In my post on book reviews I mentioned the Amazon honeymoon period. I thought I’d do some more research to better understand what it is. Now searching for “Amazon honeymoon period” wasn’t as easy as I thought it might be. Due to the power of Amazon, what my search returned was every book, film, song, etc. available on Amazon with the word honeymoon in it somewhere. I persevered and found some sites with good information. The best, I think, was oabeans. From there I learnt that it takes a while for Amazon to collect sales data, to drive its algorithm. The algorithm will give greatest prominence in searches to products that sell well. It doesn’t want to scupper a product before it has had a chance to prove itself, therefore it treats a product neutrally during this honeymoon period. Whilst the oabeans site suggests this period is 4 weeks, the amify site suggests it is 90 days.

I didn’t find it in my initial search but I thought that Dave Chesson must have something to say about it. He did. He has done some interesting research on the phenomenon. Read it here. It pretty much accords with what I’ve understood so far, but emphasises the importance of a strong book launch, and using his Publisher Rocket to get the right keywords.

I’m glad I’m working with Brian to put a proper book launch together for my latest book, Called to Account.
