I’ve posted about buying an EV, and have been the proud owner of an EV now for four days, and I love it. It’s so quiet, smooth and incredibly fast in terms of acceleration. Pro EV are due to install our home charger next Thursday, and I should be able to get by until then without charging on the public network. My consumption so far is 2.1 miles per kWh. That’s in line with what I was led to expect in winter. I haven’t worked out all the features yet, but the reversing camera was very helpful with reversing into a tight space at the doctor’s surgery this morning. The very small turning circle was useful too. I also appreciate the almost instantly comfortable cabin. There’s no waiting for the engine to warm up anymore.
You may be wondering why a new EV needs an MOT. It doesn’t, I did.
There have been concerns about my cholesterol level. My father had problems with his cholesterol too. So I had a blood sample taken about a week ago and the doctor suggested running liver and kidney function tests too and I asked for a PSA test. The nurse who took my blood sample called it a full MOT. My journey to the doctor today was to get the results. Everything was fine except that the cholesterol was still worryingly high. It’s a bit disappointing, given that I have lost quite a bit of weight since I was last tested, and I’ve switched to oat milk in my tea and coffee. The doctor recommended taking statins. He explained the side-effects which seem to be that some people will feel some muscular aches. I accepted his advice and will be taking a statin tablet every evening from tonight.
When I got home I made the mistake of reading the leaflet which comes with the tablets. I wish I hadn’t. I know they have to be open, but this bit scared me a little: “abnormal muscle breakdown” that does “not always go away, even after you have stopped taking atorvastatin, and it can be life-threatening and lead to kidney problems.” That’s under the 1 in 1,000 people heading. Ah well, I don’t want a heart attack either, so I’ll take the tablets. Wish me luck!
