I don’t have much writing news for you today. Called to Account is now available as an audiobook, while The Suggested Assassin is still pending ACX review. The biography of Cardinal Richelieu hasn’t been delivered yet. I want to digest that, and consider him alongside Louis XIII, before starting to think about book five. The delivery window expires tomorrow, so I shall contact the vendor if it still hasn’t arrived. The postal strikes may be to blame, and the snow today probably isn’t helping.

In other news, the lease on my car expires soon. I have decided it is time to help save the planet and switch to an electric car. I had hoped that transport as a service (taas) would have rendered owning a car unnecessary by now, but sadly it seems to be taking longer to evolve than I had hoped. Therefore Claire and I visited Skoda in Swindon yesterday, to test drive the Enyaq.

We took it it turns to drive the base version, the iV60, around Swindon. Dave the salesman had warned us to be very careful on the slippery roads. It’s a much heavier car than the petrol or diesel equivalent because of the batteries. It’s also rear wheel drive. We were very careful and found the car to be impressive. Claire has always refused to drive an automatic, but despite having problems with only two pedals, she said she would drive an EV.

My dilemma is choosing which model. I like the reassurance that 4 wheel drive provides. There have been times when I have been grateful for it. Our village has a hill to climb to get out, and in snow it can be insurmountable with rear wheel drive. The problem is that the base model only comes with rear wheel drive. The next up, the iV80, has a 4 wheel drive option, but the order time is over a year. That leaves the Coupé RS, if I buy another Skoda. I know other brands are available, but the Enyaq has had good reviews, and I’ve loved my Octavia Scout.

I’ve been weighing the extra expense against the threat of snow. Perhaps climate change makes snow much less likely? Therefore awaking to heavy snow and a freezing weather forecast for the rest of the week, has convinced me. I’ll let you know how we get on. I haven’t tried writing a car review before.
